The chiropractic profession of healthcare emphasizes restoring normal joint function to the spine and other joints in the body, such as shoulder, hip, ankle, wrist, etc. To do this the doctor must first determine what has caused the abnormal joint function. the majority of the time this is caused by muscular imbalances in and around the joint. That is our focus here at Schultz Chiropractic and Acupuncture, to determine the cause of the problem and then use techniques to resolve the muscular imbalance. Quite often muscular imbalance causes undo stress at the tendon insertion and causes inflammation, most commonly known as tendonitis, as well as inflammation in the muscle itself. So, whether it's a new injury due to an accident, or if it's a chronic injury, many times they will present the same way, as inflamed tissues.
In our office we use numerous techniques to reduce inflammation ranging from simple ice therapy to more advanced methods involving pulsed ultrasound, interferential current, and acupuncture. Once we have accomplished reducing the inflammation and pain, we then concentrate on reducing the muscle tension or spasm to restore normal joint motion. Restoring normal joint motion is accomplished by applying a variety of techniques such as deep tissue therapy, flexion/distraction, stretching and strengthening exercises, and the chiropractic adjustment. Joint mobilization is accomplished through traditional diversified techniques when appropriate; however, in certain cases a low force technique called activator technique may be required. In any case, once proper joint function is restored the body can resume normal balance of motion, with less tension and nerve irritation, and free movement.
